Double (formerly Keeper): AI month-end close, priced per client

Our verdict: Double is the tool that used to be called Keeper, now living at doublehq.com. It is built for firms that close a lot of client books every month. It connects to QuickBooks and Xero, pulls in bank feeds with AI, helps you clean up reconciliations (matching the books to the bank statement) with a "fix this rec" step, and produces one-click financial summaries you can send through a client portal. The pricing is refreshingly plain: you pay per connected client per month -- Core $10, Plus $25, Scale $50 -- and users are unlimited, so adding staff never raises the bill. If your month-end close -- the monthly job of finalizing the books -- across a stack of clients is the drain, this is aimed straight at it.

Double (formerly Keeper) runs AI-assisted month-end close and client management, priced per connected client per month -- Core $10, Plus $25, and Scale $50, with unlimited users.

What does Double actually deliver?

Double runs your month-end close across every client you connect. It links to QuickBooks Online and Xero, brings in bank feeds, and uses AI to speed up reconciliation -- matching the books to the bank statement -- with a "fix this rec" prompt when a transaction does not line up. Then it builds one-click financial summaries and shares them with clients through a portal. You review and sign off; the AI does the first pass.

The other half is client management. Double helps you chase uncategorized transactions and missing documents, and keeps the back-and-forth with each client in one place instead of scattered email. The point is a faster, cleaner close across a whole book of clients, with you still owning the final numbers.

What does it cost?

Double prices by connected client, not by staff seat. Core is $10 per connected client per month, Plus is $25, and Scale is $50, and every tier includes unlimited users. That means the bill grows with how many client books you close, not how many people you hire. Add up your active clients and pick the tier by the features you need. Pricing checked 2026-07-24.

What about confidentiality and the rules?

Confidentiality note: Client ledgers and financial data carry duties you cannot hand off. IRS Circular 230 keeps the due-diligence and competence duties on you, and the AICPA confidentiality rule protects client information. IRC Section 7216 is a criminal-and-civil rule: before you use or share a client's tax-return information, you generally need their written consent, so mind it if return data ever flows through the tool. The GLBA Safeguards Rule and the IRS-required WISP (a Written Information Security Plan -- the written security plan every tax and accounting firm must keep) mean you must check how a tool stores and protects data. Get Double's data-handling and model-training terms in writing, and confirm it does not train on your client data, before you connect real client books. Who is it right for?

Strong if…

  • You close books for a stack of clients every month and want the close done faster.
  • You want plain per-client pricing that does not jump when you add staff.
  • Your clients are on QuickBooks Online or Xero -- the connection is native.
  • You want to send clean financial summaries to clients through a portal.

Maybe not if…

  • You have only one or two clients -- the per-client model may not beat a flat-price tool.
  • Your books live somewhere other than QuickBooks Online or Xero.
  • You need tax research or full practice management -- look at Blue J or Canopy.
  • Your drain is data entry more than close -- Botkeeper leans that way.

Common questions

How much does Double cost?

Double prices per connected client per month, with unlimited users on every tier: Core is $10, Plus is $25, and Scale is $50. The bill scales with how many client books you close, not how many staff you have. Pricing checked 2026-07-24.

Is Double the same as Keeper?

Yes. Keeper renamed to Double and now lives at doublehq.com. It is the same month-end close and client-management tool, with the new name.

What does Double do?

It connects to QuickBooks Online and Xero, pulls in bank feeds with AI, helps clean up reconciliations with a "fix this rec" step, builds one-click financial summaries, and shares them with clients through a portal.

What does "per connected client" mean for the price?

You pay for each client file you connect, not for each staff seat. Users are unlimited, so adding people to your firm does not raise the bill. Count your active clients to estimate cost.
